The Alliance Française de Waterford was given a great boost when Eileen Ryan, the long time President, was made Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques at a reception in the French Embassy Dublin on 26th June last. The award is presented to individuals in recognition for services to French culture and is a considerable distinction.

Waterford Alliance celebrated the occasion by attending the function in strength. The guests included the Waterford President Robbert van Donselaar, committee members, teachers and other members. The family and friends of the recipent were also present, including former colleagues from W.I.T.

The presentation was made by her Excellency Mme Emmanuelle d’Achon, French Ambassador to Ireland. Also present were madame d’Achon’s husband, the Director of Alliance Française in Ireland Claire Bourgeois and the Cultural counselor at the French Embassy, M. Hadrien Laroche.  The Ambassadress congratulated Eileen on her achievement through many years of service in the promotion and teaching of the French language. The ceremony was followed by a reception hosted by the French Embassy.
